The Yaninee Hall has become a meeting place for the youngest members of Yaninee and from these weekly meetings a group has emerged calling themselves Project: Yaninee 5653.
The focus of Project: Yaninee 5653 is to support, secure and sustain existing public infrastructure such as the Yaninee Institute and the Telstra Phone Box as well as supporting, encouraging and increasing the natural habitat and biodiversity of the township zone.
Project: Yaninee 5653 plans to initiate programs that educate the children of Yaninee about how important it is for them to understand how food the they eat, the waste they create, and the water they use, has an effect on the environment and what difference they can make in improving and enhancing their environment and the ecosystem in which they live.
Increasing the rainwater collection infrastructure at the Yaninee Hall is the priority. The current infrastructure consists of a very small rusty and leaky tank. The roof of the Hall is quite large and currently underused, there is available area and roof space for a larger rainwater collection facility to be installed. Fundraising for this is already underway with various programs organised and a grants writing group has been assembled.
Progress and regular updates will be posted on this site.
