When the Thursday group started meeting weekly, the initial idea was to make sure the Hall got used and that it received the TLC it needed. It was soon realised that the Hall’s raintanks were in desperate need of repair and that the Hall’s roof space was severly under utilised. The group decided that its first fund raising focus would be for new tanks at the hall, or at the least, to replace the only one it had. To raise the large amount required for a decent rainwater catchement system seemed overwhelming for our small group to do on its own, so it was decided that grant funding opportunities would be looked at.
Last week in the mail the Hall received a letter from Paul Caica, the SA Minister for Environment and Conservation, stating that it was successful in its grant application. The Hall had submitted a proposal in May to the Department of Water, Land and Biodiversity for funds to fix and replace guttering as well as the installation of new and larger raintanks.
Now the fun begins, we’ve got the money, time to do the work.
All members of the community wanting to discuss this project or submit their ideas are invited to contact the Hall’s committee either via email hall@yaninee.com or by attending a regular Thursday morning gathering.
Its really great to see people understanding the usefulness of rainwater tanks. Keep up the good work.
