To tap in to the power of on-line social networking the Yaninee Hall is now on Facebook.

Through this network the Hall hopes to spread the news about it’s upcoming events and fundraisers as well as creating another space for all to keep in touch.

If you would like to be a friend of the Hall just click on the facebook badge and visit our page.

The ovens had been on overdrive in Yaninee this week and all was on offer (well as biscuits, muffins and cupcakes)

This year’s Biggest Morning Tea saw the biggest turnout of residents on a Thursday to date and we were pleased to be able to raise $60 for the Cancer Council of South Australia.

Whilst not quite making our goal the fact that we were able to get so many together for such an important cause was enough for us, and therefore we have decided to participate again next year.

One of the food favourites on the day were the scones (lavishly topped with jam and cream of course) and even though it was stated that “I didnt follow a recipe I just threw them together” we’ve been able to secure some kind of reingredient list and process  so all can indulge (the sponge roll recipe is currently being sought after).

Fluffiest scones ever

2 cups SR Flour

3 tsp white sugar

1/2 cup powdered milk

1/2 tsp baking powder

Mix dry ingredients

2 tsp melted butter

1 cup of water (approx)

Mix wet ingredients and add to dry.

Roll out on floured surface till 2-3cm thick. Cut with cutter and bake in 200C for 15 mins.

Smother in cream and jam and remember it’s polite to chew.

A big thanks to all that supported this fundraiser.

Already bulbs have been planted in pots and garden beds and the signs of life are shooting through.

We were glad (and surprised) to find when the bulbs finally arrived that we had been able to raise $214 towards the  replacement raintank and new guttering. Whilst this is nowhere near the funds required it was much more than anyone at the weekly gatherings expected.

Thanks again to everyone for their support and keep your eyes open later this year for the Autumn Bulb catalog.

To help support the Cancer Council, the Hall will be hosting a Morning tea on May 20th 2010 from 10am.

Our goal is to raise $70, so please join us for cake and tea and assist with the fight against cancer.

AGM – 27th April 2010

The Annual General Meeting for Yaninee Hall Inc. will be held at the Hall on Tuesday the 27th April at 7:30pm.

All are welcome.

The drought might have broken but Hall’s water isn’t secure.

The current rainwater tank is in severe need of replacement and the guttering is long overdue for basic maintenance, not to mention some major repairs are required in parts. So at one of the regular Thursday gatherings some residents of Yaninee have decided that 2010 is the year that they put some efforts into obtaining a new rain tank  and fix the guttering.

Fund raising quickly became the focus of the conversation with various ideas being put forward. The first action was to sign the Hall up to the Bulbs Direct fundraising program.

A catalog was posted to each of the boxes in the Yaninee Post Office and soon an on-line facility will be available for anyone in Australia to make bulb purchases which will raise funds for the Hall. It is not expected that this program will meet the funds required to secure the Hall’s water but it’s a start…

The Hall Noticeboard was christened today with it’s first notice.

Last Thursday the ugly piece of steel that is screwed in above the main doors was painted with chalkboard paint.

The Yaninee Tennis Club are  congratulated for winning the championship this year, the noticeboard’s first announcement.

The current Bulb fundraising campaign also got a mention (more on this later)

It is hoped that this new town notice board will be updated once a week, listing events, information and results for the people of Yaninee to read.

A new year

A different day

The Hall now open on Thursday from 10am

All welcome

Cupcake Day

cupcakes2Monday 17th August was RSPCA’s Cupcake Day and the Hall was opened for this fund raiser and stocked with delicious cupcakes.

Whilst the Hall didnt have the turnout that the organisers had hoped for, the “lack of numbers” increased the cupcake:person ratio for all those who did, resulting in everyone eating too many cupcakes.

The morning was declared a success by all, with some funds being raised for the RSPCA and everyone’s sweet tooth being satisfied.

hallgarden1The Yaninee Hall received a much appreciated little face lift on Friday 7th Aug 2009.

Some of the youngest generation in town, with their parents, dug, planted and mulched through the morning, creating new beds using Esther Deans’ “No Dig Garden” method.

After an hour or so it was noted that the children had disappeared leaving the parents to put over 100 plants in the ground.pots

The plants donated by residents included; White bearded iris’, society garlics and violets. Even a few leaky buckets were converted into pots with a few spring flowering bulbs.

Now the community  waits, with its fingers are crossed, to see how many of these plants survive their brutal transplant.
